Circolo is the New Home of Lehmann Maupin’s Superstar Artists
In the heart of Milan’s most glamorous district, a space has emerged to welcome galleries without headquarters in Italy, allowing them to present their artists to the city’s public. It’s called Circolo and was founded at Via della Spiga, 48 by Nicole Saikalis Bay. Yesterday, this innovative non-profit reality, a true gem nestled in the fashion quadrilateral, inaugurated a new collaboration with the prestigious American gallery Lehmann Maupin. A veritable center of gravity for global art with locations scattered between London, New York, and Asia. The partnership materialized in a grand collective exhibition bringing together numerous stars of contemporary creativity. On display are recent works by New York artist Nari Ward, historical paintings and sculptures by Korean artist Kim Yun Shin, as well as pieces by artists such as Hernan Bas, Billy Childish, Lee Bul, Catherine Opie, Alex Prager, and Erwin Wurm. At the inauguration, which took place during the strategic days of miart and Art Week, many figures from the collecting world, museum institutions, and the art scene were present. Alongside host Nicole Saikalis Bay and gallerist David Maupin were Jessica Kreps Rothenberg and Isabella Icoz, partners at Lehmann Maupin, Arturo Galansino, Director General of the Fondazione Palazzo Strozzi, photographer Chervine Dalaeli, Herman Leyba, founder of Artley Inc., and gallerist Giò Marconi.
