Christie’s Hosts the Coveted Sale and Exhibition ‘Mathilde & Friends in Paris’
Both a sale and an exhibition, this special event revolves around Mathilde Favier, a brilliant figure on the international fashion scene and a true Parisian woman at heart. Here, she draws us into a whirlwind of elegance, mischief, and refinement, the secrets of which she alone possesses. From January 26th to February 4th, Mathilde offers a glimpse of her and her friends’ world through a series of cherished objects, iconic outfits, poetic charms, and unexpected treasures. Seasoned collectors and Paris lovers alike will recognise the mantra behind it all: Parisian chic is never about money, but about style.
The Mathilde & Friends in Paris sale features a selection of personal items gifted or crafted by her loved ones (Julie de Libran, Jacques Grange, Constance Rubini), pieces by artists she admires (Claude and François-Xavier Lalanne, Janine Janet, Mario Buccellati, etc.), and works chosen by the Galerie du Passage. Among the most notable items are a chintz sofa, a pair of embroidered armchairs, and creations by Ettore Sottsass and Michael Anastassiades. Tableware will also be featured (sets by Félix Bracquemond and Rosenthal), as well as pieces from her wardrobe (Yves Saint Laurent, Chanel, Dior) and jewellery (Claude Lalanne, JAR). Finally, it should be noted that a selection of works from the Pierre Bergé and Yves Saint Laurent collection from Terry de Gunzburg is also on display. The exhibition’s scenography was entrusted to illustrator and watercolourist Tatiana de Nicolay, who brings her poetic universe to highlight this special moment.
At the opening, we met Christine d’Ornano, Sarah Andelman, Julie de Libran, Edward Mitterrand, Charles Zana, and others.
