Catherine Deneuve & Yves Saint Laurent: an exceptional auction at Christie’s
A “very haute couture” friendship has given way to an extraordinary Christie’s event… Since the 1960s, Yves Saint Laurent and Catherine Deneuve cultivated a relationship that went far beyond that of designer and muse. At age 20, the future icon of French cinema—and the eternal “Belle de Jour”—first encountered the designer, whom she describes as “such a talented man, one whose designs only made women more beautiful.” With the couturier’s help, the actress collected an Haute Couture wardrobe in her house in Normandy over a period of forty years. She sold the ensemble of garments—“not without sadness”—on January 24th in an exceptional auction organized by Christie’s Paris. For the occasion, Catherine Deneuve spoke with Loïc Prigent in front of an audience of fashion and art personalities (Suzy Menkes, Bruno Frisoni, Ines de la Fressange, Sigourney Weaver), delving into the collection and her relationship with Mr. Yves Saint Laurent. The auction continues online at www.christies.com thru January 30th…
