Christian Berst Gallery Celebrates its 20th Anniversary

Galerie Christian Berst, Paris

This year, the christian berst – art brut gallery celebrates twenty years of curiosity and boldness by hosting two unique exhibitions.

The first one, called “The Enspirited, Tribal Art and Art Brut in Conversation”, presents two art forms that are both on the margins of academic norms. Curated by Daniel Klein and Antoine Frérot, two art collectors driven by a desire to transcend categories, it brings together art brut and tribal art, reflecting respectively the individual mythologies of those without artistic culture and the collective mythologies of non-Western societies. Motivated by the same quest for answers to the great existential questions, artists of both genres attribute to art the power to ‘inhabit the world’ and build bridges toward the unknown, the sublime and the supernatural.

Across from the main space, in its showroom called The Bridge, the gallery is also highlighting the decade of existence of the Profane magazine and its twenty first issues, transforming the space into a unique showcase for works that have often remained hidden within the pages of the publication. Three groups of artists, Aurél, Seanie Barron and the inhabitants of Crozant, invite visitors on an artistic journey involving sculpture, woodwork and textile art. Their works, united by a common quest, aspire to build bridges between materials, artistic disciplines and time. This exhibition is a beautiful celebration of commitment and creative passion.

At the inauguration, we met gallery owner Christian Berst, alongside Daniel Klein, Antoine Frérot, Aurél, Seanie Barron…
