The Centre Pompidou’s Closing Exhibition: Carte Blanche for Wolfgang Tillmans

Centre Pompidou, Paris

It has long been announced that the Centre Pompidou will soon be closing its doors for five years of renovation work. To round off this last cultural season in style, the museum has chosen to organise a major retrospective of the work of Wolfgang Tillmans. The contemporary German artist has been given carte blanche to take over and arrange no less than 6,000 square metres, creating a dialogue between his work and the museum’s library. This large-scale installation explores over thirty-five years of artistic practice linked to photography, but not only. With music, text and contributions from artists, Wolfgang Tillmans investigates the transformation of art media and today’s media. This exceptional exhibition is a must-see before the museum finally closes in September 2025. At the opening, we met Christoph Wiesner, Xavier Veilhan, Floriane de Saint-Pierre, Christian Berst and many others.
