For its 11th Artistic Edition, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche Presents « Objets divers et variés – 百货 (baihuò) » by Song Dong
For over ten years, Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche has been highlighting contemporary art every January by inviting an artist to take over its space with a site-specific work. This annual event revives the visionary spirit of Aristide and Marguerite Boucicaut, founders of the department store. By hosting painting exhibitions, concerts, and reading rooms, they transformed Le Bon Marché into a cultural institution and a pioneering force during the 19th century.
Following Ai Weiwei in 2016, Joana Vasconcelos in 2019, Daniel Buren in 2024, and Ernesto Neto in 2025, Song Dong is now taking over the entire store with his exhibition “Objets divers et variés – 百货 (baihuò).”
Like many artists who tend to step away from museum settings, Song Dong knows how to take over places as varied as temples, gardens, and public spaces. For Le Bon Marché Rive Gauche, he has created monumental works of art that will be displayed in the shop windows, under the glass roofs, and on the second floor of the store.
Kicked off by a visit from Isabelle Huppert, the opening reception brought together Sam Baron, Gilbert Kann, Inès Mélia, Tatty McLeod, and other art world experts.
