Balmain Fall/Winter 2020-21: Olivier Rousteing’s message of inclusion

Olivier Rousteing presented his Balmain Fall/Winter 2020-21 collection on the same day as the French César Awards ceremony. While the 45th edition of the « French Oscars » may have been controversial, the creator didn’t hide his enthusiasm at seeing “Wonder Boy”, the documentary that follows him as he searches for his roots, nominated for the César for best documentary. On his extra-wide runway, the child prodigy of fashion delivered perhaps one of his most personal collections yet. His message is strong: that of a little boy who dreams of belonging, “Wonder Boy” leading his Balmain Army with a message of inclusivity and breaking down the boundaries between bourgeois and mainstream. His clothing seamlessly blends the personal and the universal with his vision that also encompasses the historical codes of the Balmain house. In the front row, Audrey Tautou, Usher, Janelle Moané and Ashley Benson were among the first to witness this history-making collection by Olivier Rousteing.
