At Leonor Parra’s Latin Square, contemporary art get the dance fever
Latin American contemporary creation is enjoying great days in Paris. While even before the official start of the FIAC, artistic events flourished in the capital (we think in particular of the in situ exhibition of the Brazilian Artur Lescher at the Palais d’Iena), the Carré Latin inaugurated its second edition in the Gardens of the Palais-Royal. The project, which aims to put a spotlight on contemporary art in Latin America, was initiated by art consultant Leonor Parra (founder of LCP+ART, which links the Paris market with the Latin American art scene). From 16 to 28 October, some twenty showcases from the Valois, Beaujolais and Montpensier galleries will be adorned with works by artists such as Wilmer Herrison, Janidel Mendoza and Antonio Asis, who will benefit from a solo show never seen before at IBU Gallery. Among the guests present at the inauguration of the project this Monday, the faces of Ulysse Cottin and Armand Penicaut of the Papooz group, and the masked body of the artist Cristobal Ochoa who, despite his combination covered with black thorns, mingled with the cheerful crowd near the Pol Bury fountain. An evening which, it was to be expected, ended in music and dance fever.
