Asia NOW Settles In The Historical Site of La Monnaie de Paris

On the occasion of its 8th edition, Asia NOW has found haven in the heart of Paris, within the magnificent historical site of La Monnaie de Paris. From October 20 to 23, this stunning building of classical architecture – resembling both a private mansion and a courtyard – will be hosting 88 international galeries, a series of performances inaugurated by Nikhil Chopra, Ayako Rokakku, and Neda Razavipour, conversations initiated by Thanks for Nothing and works by artists Natsuko Uchino, Bita Razavi, Roknin and Ramin Haerizadeh & Hesam Rahmanian as well as Park Chae Dalle, specifically designed for this particular space.

This body of works highlights the diversity and vitality of contemporary Asian art by bringing together approximately 250 artists from nearly 30 countries. This year’s title « Feux de Joie » accentuates the natural aspiration to be together again, in the midst of open artistic practices, from ceramics – this edition’s highlight – to the core creation of avatars and parallel universes. Whether art lovers, collectors, museum directors, private collection advisors, exhibition curators or simply anyone working to support creation, all are warmly invited to discover the fair through a multiple-entry tour. One will then, enjoy the works by the most relevant of both emerging and established artists of the global artistic scene.

Co-founder and director Alexandra Fain wished to surround herself with talents. Kathy Alliou has taken over the artistic direction of « Places », guest curator Nicolas Trembley proposed the exhibition « Mingei Asia now » while Odile Burluraux selected films by women artists to create a series under the name of « Gulf futurism ». Thanks for Nothing has been curating panel talks around art and commitment.  Maison Sisley, and Christine d’Ornano, partner of the event, support the carte blanche given to the critic and curator Nicolas Trembley: “Mingei Asia Now” celebrates the work of ceramics and weaving of basketry in the contemporary art scene.

Asia NOW opened its doors this Thursday 20, in the midst of the surge linked to the launch of Paris + Art Basel. The opportunity for the art world to discover the work of more than 88 handpicked galleries and various special projects, including an in situ installation by artist Natsuko Uchino, both designed exclusively for this edition.

Also imagined for the fair, Perrotin’s gallery booth, curated by Takashi Murakami and a solo show by Korean artist Minjung Kim, presented by Almine Rech.
