Perrotin’s Artists in Full Bloom at the 60th Venice Biennale
On April 20th, the 2024 Venice Biennale opens its doors to the public. This edition of the major contemporary art event features the work of several artists represented by Perrotin, both on the official Biennale itinerary, the collateral exhibition itinerary, as well as the artists’ solo shows and installations in the city.
Iván Argote, a guest artist in the group exhibition held at the Central Pavilion Stranieri Ovunque – Foreigners Everywhere, presents Descanso in the Giardini. The installation takes the form of a replica of the Christopher Columbus statue erected in the Plaza Colòn in Madrid, only that fragmented, laid on the ground, and partly intruded by invasive plants. Through this piece, the artist invites guests to participate in his reflection on anti-monuments and colonial heritage.
As part of the Biennale’s official programme, several artists represented by the Perrotin Gallery present solo exhibitions across Venice. Daniel Arsham is one of them, who unveils “Venice 3024” at the Chiesa di Santa Caterina. Organised in collaboration with Ronald Harrar, the exhibition features new works from the Fractured Idols series alongside sculptures and paintings evoking Arsham’s signature research, fictional archaeology.
Bernar Venet’s early works are displayed at the Biblioteca Nazionale Marciana, home to the exhibition 1961… LOOKING FORWARD, which offers an overview of the artistic development of this master of abstraction. As part of the official collateral events, Lee Bae takes centre stage with the solo exhibition The House of the Burnt Moon, at the Wilmotte Foundation. Alongside are Maurizio Cattelan and Claire Tabouret, who bring their unique vision to the presentation With My Eyes, curated by Chiara Parisi and Bruno Racine, at the Vatican Pavilion. The Berggruen Arts & Culture, Palazzo Diedo, is hosting Janus, a group show featuring eleven internationally renowned artists, including AYA TAKANO. JR presents L’observatoire, an Orient-Express carriage designed by the artist and moored for a few days in Venice. Last but not least, Jens Fange presents GLASSTRESS 8½ at the Fondazione Berengo Art Space on the island of Murano, with a series of original works created in collaboration with Murano’s master glassmakers.
