Airelles Gordes, La Bastide Celebrates the Art of Living

La Bastide, Gordes

Perched on the hilltop of Gordes, one of France’s most beautiful villages, this 16th-century maison is an invitation to discover the beauty and the terroir of the Luberon region. In 1948, painter Victor Vasarely and his wife fell in love with this valley, choosing to spend every summer there. Captivated by the stunning landscapes and the magical Provençal light that has fascinated artists for centuries. Vasarely was not the only painter inspired by the region: Marc Chagall, Jean Deyrolle, Serge Poliakoff, André Lhote were all drawn to this haven for artists.

In 2015, La Bastide opened its doors as an Airelles maison, having called on the artistry of more than 150 craftsmen and women to honour the past of this historic bastide. With such attention to detail, architect and interior designer Christophe Tollemer has created a true Provençal home, brought to life by authentic European antiques, period artworks, beautiful wood carvings and Provence-inspired fabrics by Maison Pierre Frey. The result is a loving preservation of the maison’s extraordinary identity.

To celebrate this renaissance, the Maison had invited Patrick Bruel, Daniele Gerkens, Yasmine Kayser, Pirrie Wright, Adèle Bréau and many more.
