Artissima Opens in Turin, Inviting Us to Daydream

“The Era of Daydreaming” is the theme of the new edition of Artissima, the only fair in Italy exclusively dedicated to contemporary art. A poetic and optimistic theme that invites everyone to daydream. Now in its 31st edition, the event is once again set up at the Oval, a futuristic structure in Turin created by the British firm HOK SVE Ltd and the Zoppini Studio in 2006. This year, it’s a kind of extraterrestrial spaceship hosting 189 Italian and international galleries from 34 countries, divided into four main sections – Main Section, New Entries, Monologue/Dialogue, and Art Spaces & Editions – as well as three curated sections – Present Future, Back to the Future, and Drawings. Directed for the third consecutive year by Luigi Fassi, the event officially opened last night to a large crowd. While weaving through the various stands, we encountered, among others, gallery owners such as Guido Costa, Francesco Pantaleone, Tommaso Calabro, and Eugenia Delfini; artists like Francesco Simeti, Romina Bassu, and Marinella Senatore. And then numerous figures from the art and culture scene, including the director of the GAMeC in Bergamo, Lorenzo Giusti, the director of the Museo del Novecento in Milan, Gianfranco Maraniello, Vanity Fair Italia editor in chief, Simone Marchetti and art curator, Demetrio Paparoni.

Each guest is invited to daydream, which the curators of Artissima regard as the “central expression of spontaneous thought and a tool for future-oriented creation.” And if they say so…
