While the brand’s legendary 1963 chronograph needs no further introduction by now and holds a special place in the hearts of all watch lovers, this new bespoke version by the renowned ‘Artisan de Genève’ has grabbed our attention. This team of skilled craftsmen, well-known for their outstanding personalisations, are offering this dial in Aventurine, a stone produced in the 18th century from an accidental fusion of copper and glass. The legend goes that one day, a Venetian glassmaker unintentionally spilt copper shavings into the glass, which immediately produced a resplendent glass with glittering reflections. Its deep blue, like a starry night, blends perfectly with the rose gold, and the smoked glass of the sub-dials offers a window onto something you never see on a professional Rolex: its calibre. It’s beautiful, rare and quite expensive, as the modification alone will cost you around 40,000€, to which you need to add the price of the original watch. As for its value in 10 or 20 years, we can’t even fathom to predict it.
