The Iconic Scottish Whisky Laphroaig Unveils Two New Limited Editions in Milan
Last night, Lom Dopolavoro in Milan provided the backdrop for an exclusive Laphroaig-branded party. The occasion? The presentation of two new Limited Editions of the renowned Scottish whisky. These are the Laphroaig 33yo and Laphroaig 30yo. The first is part of the Strong Characters series (offering the chance to explore the pioneers who made Laphroaig what it is today) and is dedicated to co-founder Donald Johnston. This whisky is aged for 33 years in American oak barrels and European oak ex-sherry casks. It’s a complex and robust product, with a nose alternating between sweet caramel notes, heather honey, sourdough bread, and even hints of sea spray. On the palate, the sherry adds notes of fruitcake and spices. The iconic smoky finish of Laphroaig—truly the brand’s signature, founded in 1815 on Islay—evokes smoked ham, cured mackerel, and herbaceous smoke. The icing on the cake: the bottle is embellished with illustrations by British artist Bill Bragg.
The other new addition is Laphroaig 30yo, a single malt aged 30 years in American oak barrels, as well as in hogsheads and European oak casks. On the nose, this whisky is a mix of orange and lemon zest combined with custard and caramel. On the palate, you’ll find bergamot, baked goods, fresh thyme, and white pepper. The iconic finish is all about burning peat smoke and smoky bonfires.
The evening saw the participation of many figures from the cultural scene. Immersed in a set design dotted with burning braziers and pristine white barrels, we photographed Vasco Brondi, Dente, Nicolas Ballario, Francesco Simeti, Johanna Maggy, Sergio Carnevale and many others.
P.S. Both Laphroaig 33yo and Laphroaig 30yo will be available for sale in Italy in limited edition from the end of November!
