The Milan Metro’s M1 line celebrates its 60th anniversary. To mark this special occasion, cc-tapis has presented a truly unique collaboration between Massimo Giorgetti, founder and creative director of MSGM, and the Franco Albini Foundation. The collection, inspired by the famous red tubular handrail designed by the great Italian architect, urban planner, and designer, was unveiled the other day at Ordet Gallery, which hosted an exhibition exploring the countless threads weaving together fashion, design, art, and architecture.

The handrail, with its rounded shape, was created by Albini to prevent commuters’ coats from getting caught as they entered and exited subway stations. A design element that, according to Giorgetti, represents “a question mark that has become a timeless symbol of the city of Milan.”

The MSGM Fall/Winter 2024 collection is directly inspired by this iconic form, reinterpreted in a modern key. In addition to the hand-knotted textile artworks, the exhibition includes a giant robotufted rug, produced at cc-tapis’ Milanese prototyping center, as a tribute to Albini’s design for the first Milan Metro line (photo: ©Simon171).
