The Centre Pompidou-Metz opens two new exhibitions
2020 has not been the best year for contemporary art. Faced with the closure of borders around the world, many exhibitions and fairs had to be cancelled or couldn’t reach their usual crowds. This was the case of the Taipei Biennale, which was held between November 2020 and March 2021 and attended only by the local audience. Today, the Centre Pompidou-Metz offers an international platform to the project “You and I don’t live on the same planet”. This new edition was orchestrated by the sociologist and philosopher Bruno Latour and the curators Martin Guinard and Eva Lin. Until April 4, 2022, the Centre Pompidou-Metz honors the Taiwanese art scene by recreating part of the original exhibition that questions the conflicts related to the environmental crisis, bringing together some twenty artists, collectives, architects and scientists. Simultaneously, the French art center presents an exhibition entitled “Writing is drawing” until February 21, 2022. Based on an original idea by Lebanese-American artist and poet Etel Adnan, the exhibition explores the art of writing through letters, manuscripts and graphic works from the Centre Pompidou collections. Curated by Jean-Marie Gallais, Head of programming at the Centre Pompidou-Metz, the exhibition brings together works by artists such as Etel Adnan, Roland Barthes, Louise Bourgeois, Jacques Villeglé and Pierre Alechinsky, and creates a dialogue with the writing cabinets of authors such as Arthur Rimbaud and Victor Hugo, as well as treasures from the collections of the Bibliothèque nationale de France, the Louvre and other major French institutions.
