Drawing Now opens its alternative edition
Drawing Now is the reference in contemporary drawing. In the unprecedented context of the pandemic, the new edition of the salon created by Christine Phal and Carine Tissot opened its doors in an alternative venue, an abandoned department store on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Antoine in the district of Bastille. Redesigned to welcome its visitors in the best conditions possible, the salon kicked off as usual with the Drawing Now Prize ceremony, which ended up awarding French artist Nicolas Daubanes (Galerie Maubert). Although unprecedented, this new edition (from June 10 to 13) gathers no less than 34 galleries that offer a comprehensive vision of contemporary drawing over the last 50 years. Drawing Now opened as part as ‘Printemps du Dessin’ (previously known as ‘Mois du Dessin’) and with the support of the Ministry of Culture. The salon also shines a light on the Drawing Society, which was created by Phal and Tissot in 2007 to encourage initiatives towards the promotion of contemporary drawing. Among them: the Drawing Lab – an art center created in 2017, the Drawing Hotel, and today also a brand new atelier: the Drawing Factory.
