Tom Van Der Borght and Marvin M’Toumo win the 35th Hyères Festival

D-day is here! After a weekend of discoveries and new talents, it was finally time for the 35th Hyères Festival to award its winners. This was a memorable edition for the obvious reason of lockdown forcing the Festival to be rescheduled to October. But even with strict sanitary measures, nothing would have stopped the festival-goers to have the best experience in Hyères. On the closing Sunday, the day started with the finalists of the Fashion Accessories competition presided over by Hubert Barrère, as well as the brand new Hermès Fashion Accessories Prize. Early in the afternoon, it was designer duo Ddiddue & Juana Etcheberry who took the spotlight by winning both prizes. But that wasn’t all. The jury was so impressed with the finalists that they decided to award Antonin Mongin, Florian Dach and Dimitri Zéphir with a special prize, while French-Syrian designer Oubadah Nouktah took home the Prix du Public – Ville de Hyères. In the fashion category, the grand winner was undoubtedly Belgian designer Tom Van Der Borght, who took home the Première Vision Grand Prize as well as the Prix du Public. With a lot of emotion, French designer Marvin M’Toumo was awarded the coveted Chloé Prize, and Emma Bruschi was the first ever finalist to win the new Chanel Métiers d’Art prize. All three received their awards from the hands of Olivier Gabet and former winner Christoph Rumpf, who stepped in for Jonathan Anderson forced to attend the Festival remotely. Finally, Paolo Roversi’s photography jury announced their winners: Chinese photographer Guanyu Xu was awarded Grand Prize, while Andras Ladosci won the American Vintage Photography Prize and Dustin Thierry the Prix du Public – Ville de Hyères. Under the cloudless sky, the emotion was tangible when Jean-Pierre Blanc stepped on stage to pay homage to Christophe, a longstanding friend of the Festival who passed away in April. Dani, Camélia Jordana, Claire Laffut, Romain Brau, Juliette Armanet and Hervé all took the stage to pay homage to the immense French singer. Finally, before leaving this South of France bubble, guests enjoyed a surprise performance of Aloïse Sauvage. See you next year, Hyères!
