In Milan, Walter Chiapponi unveils “Tod’s Italian Essence”
At the helm of T Factory, the creative laboratory that brings together a mobile group of Talents, Walter Chiapponi presented his very first fashion show for autumn-winter 2020 in Milan on February 21st. One of the most buzzed-about events in Milan this season, the show brought together a très chic quartet of French and international actors Annabelle Belmondo, Benjamin Voisin and “Sex Education” revelations Ncuti Gatwa and Sami Outalbali. As the group’s CEO Diego Della Valle and his prestigious guests looked on, Walter Chiapponi unveiled his vision for next winter with an elegantly discrete ambiance complete with padded walls and seats and sunset lighting. His collection, a mix of designs for both women and men, gives pride of place to an Italian tradition that is as dear to his heart as it is to the brand. Called “Tod’s Italian Essence”, the collection consists in a series of sleek silhouettes defined by an autumnal color palette, with a few accents of bright tones from red to yellow-orange. The silhouettes strolled down the runway, accentuated at the waist, to the tune of a composition by Henrik Skram and the sound of heels marching on the ground. The collection revealed a new attitude for the brand blending modern nonchalance and classical rigor. The shirts tied at the neck, the glittering appliqués on some coats and the diversity of leather ranging from stiff to supple all perfectly match the other stars of the collection: the accessories. Chiapponi has honored Tod’s emblematic shoes with a series of moccasins, backless heels and flat boots that accentuated the 70s inspiration. From a minaudière to a handbag to a large travel bag, leather goods defined the collection that ended in a crescendo with the Italian top model Mariacarla Boscono closing the show.
