Milan Fashion Week: Sitting front row at N°21 Fall/Winter 2019
No need to introduce Alessandro Dell’Acqua. Originally from Naples, the Italian designer is as hyperactive as he is talented. Not only did he found his own brand, N°21—which he oversees, and which is one of the staples of Milan Fashion Week—but he has also been the artistic director of the French house Rochas for several seasons (he will show his new collection in Paris in a few days). Beloved by journalists, stylists, and buyers, Alessandro Dell’Acqua has made his mark on fashion with his mix of couture and ultra-contemporary aesthetics. In the celebrity-packed front row sat Anna Dello Russo, journalist Giusi Ferrè (some call her the “Italian Anna Wintour”), designer Marcelo Burlon and Drew Elliott (the publisher of Paper magazine). For the Fall/Winter 2019-20, Alessandro Dell’Acqua pushed boundaries with elegant, even demure clothing, although from the back, his designs were open and surprising in volume. This deliberately provocative surprise effect came from the designer’s main inspiration this season: the 1980 Brian de Palma film “Dressed to Kill.” “What interested me was that somewhat erotic dark side you notice in women with strong self-confidence. I wanted to give it a very contemporary spin,” he said. It’s undoubtedly going to inspire the most daring women.
