“Here, I am no longer the queen: I am me,” Marie-Antoinette once said about her beloved Petit Trianon, a property gifted to her by her husband Louis XVI. The boudoir of the residence inspired the new boutique unveiled at the Château de Versailles. There are rooms that wink at the Queen’s quarters, the Office, the Gardens—with a peek into the royal china cabinet—and the King’s quarters, with a final room dedicated to stationery and books. After two months of work, “Cour de Marbre,” a boutique located in the heart of the Château, is finally opening its doors. Frédéric Didier—chief architect of these historic monuments—supervised the creation of this new site inspired by the historic courtyard before the castle. References to various emblematic sites abound, including the black-and-white marble floor. “Cour de Marbre” celebrates French creation and savoir-faire of craftsmen across a selection of twenty exclusive brands. Guests at the inauguration—including stylist Chantal Thomass and fashion blogger Diane Pernet—perused embroidered cushions, stamped notebooks, sweets, candles and jewelry inspired by Marie-Antoinette. There is no doubt that the new boutique will attract the swarms who come to visit the Versailles estate, which has been packed every minute since it opened up to the public almost 25 years ago.
