Dalí and Magritte’s spirits are the Dior Ball’s guests of honor

If for the rest of the world fashion week has something surreal (and even more so when we talk about couture), Maria Grazia Chiuri has taken this season’s theme to the letter. Already a few minutes before its haute couture fashion show on Monday, the images and videos of the incredible set design by Bureau Betak had dominated social networks, leaving aficionados eager to finally discover the silhouettes of the season. A reference to her mythical big masked ball also organized at the Rodin Museum, the creator made mannequins with evanescent masks on their faces parade with a surrealist inspiration. Thus, when night fell in the gardens of the museum on Rue de Varenne, reality had lost its balance for the pleasure of everyone’s Instastories. Passage on the giant chessboard (and its disguised riders) before entering the huge tent and its hands, ears, and floating eyes that dominate the “sky”. In the category of the most beautiful costume, Sasha Pivovarova wins our palm with her self-made mask which did not fail to strike in the eye of Ellen Von Unwerth. Nearly a thousand guests, but Bella Hadid’s faces (half hidden) will be remembered in the company of Kris Van Assche, the tops Erin O’Connor and Eva Herzigova, the sublime Monica Bellucci or Gabriel Kane Day-Lewis who will only have been recognised at second glance. On a wall, extended hands serve sweets to the guests under the manifesto “beauty will be eatable or not” (Magritte, are you there?), while on the other side, performers of all kinds cultivate fantasy (we particularly like the “queens of hearts” dancers straight out of the tale “Alice in Wonderland”). We even pinch ourselves when Willow Smith comes on stage for an exclusive concert – yes, it’s real! When it’s time to leave the ball at the most advanced hours of the night, you wonder: was it just a dream?
