Opening of the “La Vie Magnifique” season

Bringing poetry into our lives, magnifying the simple moments of our Western lives, sublimating the banal: this is what the three generations of artists who are rubbing shoulders this autumn at the Palais de Tokyo within the season”La Vie Magnifique”.

Ugo Rondinone celebrates the immense John Giorno, and through him poetry as a way of life. This unprecedented tribute, this declaration of love in the form of a work-exhibition, shows the importance and influence of John Giorno, a major figure on the American underground scene in the 1960s, accomplice of the Beat Generation, visual poet and performer who for more than fifty years has been the inspiring friend of several generations of artists.

Ragnar Kjartansson attempts to depict stereotypes of Western happiness by blurring the boundaries between the banal and the sublime. This attention to the precious fragility of feelings is expressed with humour in the great performance installation Bonjour, produced in partnership with the Festival d’Automne in Paris.

Mélanie Matranga, for her part, creates a floating between intimate space and exhibition. It involves the visitor in suspended moments in which reverie, waiting, crossed bodies in this almost domestic space keep emotions, desires and objects at the threshold of their formalization.

Also to be noted: the intervention on Lee Bul’s building, the Mathias Collins exhibitions in the Pierre Bergé Foundation module and”Exit” from the Cartier Foundation for Contemporary Art. Until 10 January 2016.
