One day only: Elmgreen & Dragset exhibit the Perrotin Gallery

While waiting for the FIAC, Elmgreen and Dragset transformed the stand of the Galerie Perrotin into a work of art, by exhibiting it for a day, isolated, in the very place where it will be at the next edition of the Foire d’art contemporain de Paris.

In this context, the duo considered the gallery stand as a work in itself. The reduced dimensions of the stand envisaged as a sculptural entity are in stark contrast to the Monumenta exhibition, which presents monumental installations at the Grand Palais every year since 2007. When the 2016 edition of the FIAC will take place here next October, the Perrotin gallery stand will then be surrounded by many other art gallery stands, as if the whole contemporary art fair had suddenly emerged around it.

Michael Elmgreen and Ingar Dragset live and work in Berlin. Forming a duo of artists since 1995, they have used different forms of staging to create their previous exhibitions: “The Well Fair” was a fake contemporary art fair presented at the Ullens Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing (2016);”Tomorrow”, an imaginary architect’s apartment, housed in the Victoria and Albert Museum, London (2013) ; “The Collectors”, the transformation of the Danish and Nordic pavilions of the 53rd Venice Biennale (2009) into two collectors’ houses;”The Welfare Show”, a metamorphosis of the Serpentine Gallery into a long labyrinth of institutional corridors (London, 2006).
