A Night at Tarasp Castle: NOMAD Meets Not Vital

Tarasp Castle, Tarasp

High in Eastern Switzerland, where the landscape already feels like a stage set, NOMAD chose to shift the center of gravity of collecting into a stone fairytale. Tarasp Castle, a 12th-century fortress in the Canton of Graubünden acquired in 2016 by the Swiss artist Not Vital, became for one evening the setting of a rare gathering, in collaboration with Switzerland Tourism.

Not just a dinner, but a passage through time: frescoed rooms and aged wood framing the host’s visionary works alongside pieces by Andy Warhol, Jean-Michel Basquiat, Francesco Clemente, Daniel Spoerri, Luciano Fabro, Franz West and Giuseppe Penone. Etchings by Rembrandt met drawings by Ferdinand Hodler, creating a subtle dialogue across centuries.

Dinner took place in the grand wood-paneled hall, just steps away from one of the largest organs in Europe. Among the guests at this highly exclusive rendezvous were NOMAD’s Founding Director Nicolas Bellavance-Lecompte, Abby Bangser, artist Clay Hernandez, Juliana Vasconcellos, Karla Otto, Charles Otto Berthoud, Marla Sabo, Ece Sukan, Christina Gläser and Sara Da Silva.

More than a celebration, it was one of those evenings that reminds you why it still matters to move, to travel, to gather: art as the pretext, conversation as the real engine. And for a few hours, the castle felt less like a monument and more like a home.
