Ferrari Luce x Jony Ive: Let There Be Light

When Ferrari announced plans to launch an electric car last year, its stock price plummeted. Despite this, the car will indeed be released this summer. As a teaser, Ferrari and LoveFrom, Jony Ive’s (a former designer for Apple) studio, unveiled the interior of their first electric car, called “Luce” (light in Italian), during a presentation in San Francisco. Only the interior components—steering wheel, controls, console, glass shifter, and seat—were on display, while the exterior will be revealed in May, with deliveries scheduled for October. With over 1,000 horsepower and acceleration from 0 to 62 mph in 2.5 seconds, the Luce reveals an aesthetic strongly inspired by Apple, resulting from five years of collaborative work. The dashboard features three analog aluminum dials that light up when the engine is started. The central, articulated screen is inspired by the iMac and incorporates mechanical buttons (toggles, switches, volume) and a multifunction analog clock. The massive aluminum steering wheel is reminiscent of one of Ive’s own Ferrari 250 Europa cars. The glass key features an E Ink display, which switches from yellow to black as it integrates with the surface of the central console.
