Galerie Negropontes Pays Tribute to Brancusi’s Legacy

Galerie Negropontes, Paris

To mark the 150th anniversary of Constantin Brancusi’s birth, Galerie Negropontes is launching a cycle of exhibitions running through 2026. Titled “A Look at Brancusi“, this commemorative programme comprises three chapters: two in Paris and one in Venice. Last Friday, January 16th, the gallery unveiled “Art and Design“. This inaugural exhibition offers a reinterpretation of Brancusi’s legacy by establishing a dialogue between works by artists and designers represented by the gallery and a series of photographs by Dan Er. Grigorescu.

Between 1964 and 1967, Romanian self-taught photographer Dan Er. Grigorescu conducted an extensive photographic study of Brancusi’s sculptures. His images are characterised by striking contrasts and deep blacks, seeking to capture the essence of the works. This analytical approach runs throughout the series, drawing attention to the timeless quality of Brancusi’s oeuvre. The exhibition stands as a tribute to the artist and to the enduring influence of his ideas and vision, which continue to inspire contemporary art.

At the exhibition opening, we met Sophie Negropontes, Martine and Jacki Perrin, Jean-Christophe Malaval, and many others.
