Although four-seater Ferrari cars are no longer scarce, the Ferrari 400 came as a bombshell when it was released in the 80’s. To fund the increasingly expensive development of racing cars, Enzo Ferrari reluctantly agreed to produce not just a modified sports car, but a proper grand tourer. Admittedly, rear seats had already been around for decades, but no chassis could pride itself on offering as much space. Focusing primarily on the lucrative American market, many of them were equipped with a sluggish and fuel-hungry automatic transmission. As a result, barely a third of them were given a manual transmission, the kind we are showcasing here. Delivered new with Verde Pino Metallic paintwork over a Sabbia (light beige) leather interior, the Ferrari was supplied to its first owner in Sondrio via Ferrari’s official dealer for Milan (first registered “SO 134745”). Now offered for sale once more by Sotheby’s, it is sure to appeal to many. Pop culture fans should also know that the 412 version is one of Daft Punk’s favorite cars, going as far as featuring it in their music video for Electronoma.
