The Manufactures nationales Highlights the Franco-Indian Dialogue on Textiles

Mobilier national, Paris

To celebrate the meeting of French and Indian textile heritage and craftsmanship, Manufactures nationales – Sèvres & Mobilier national present “Ce qui se trame. Histoires tissées entre l’Inde et la France” (a Franco-Indian dialogue on textiles). Announced by the President of the Republic in January 2024, this event explores four centuries of artistic and commercial exchanges between the two cultures. Organized in collaboration with the Institut français and the French Embassy in India, the exhibition is under the artistic direction and curatorship of Christian Louboutin and Mayank Mansingh Kaul. Divided into eight sections, ranging from historical exchanges (Indian textiles in 18th-century French interiors) to influences on fashion (Indiennes, paisley patterns, haute couture) and contemporary art, the exhibition is one of the highlights of this year-end.

At the same time, the Institut français is hosting a four-day festival called “Histoires tissées” (Woven Stories), with a detailed programme. December 4th and 5th are dedicated to professionals (round tables, networking), while December 6th and 7th are freely open to the public with workshops, artisan demonstrations and conferences. The Maison Lesage Intérieurs will be hosting embroidery workshops for the entire duration of the festival.

During this vibrant evening, we met Viswanadhan Velu, Françoise Nyssen, Soñamos Khetan, Hervé Lemoine, and many others.
