Brach Madrid x Philippe Starck: L’Auberge Espagnole

Housed in a former postal sorting centre renovated by Philippe Starck, Brach Paris opened its doors in late 2018. Tucked away in the 16th arrondissement, the location for the Hotel was an unusual choice at the time. Conversely, the Madrid counterpart, which opened its doors last year, is ideally placed on the city’s main thoroughfare. The interior, with panelled walls and ceilings covered in woven imitation leather, decorated with eclectic artworks and French and Spanish art books, is full of character. Although at risk of feeling overly adorned, the rooms manage to tell a story through elements such as maps of Spain, heart-engraved wallpaper and display cases filled with souvenirs. The hotel also features an event space on the seventh floor, ‘L’Atelier’, complete with its own terrace. Meanwhile, in the basement, ‘La Capsule’ offers a half-futuristic, half-holistic experience. Spanning 400m², this unique sanctuary features a swimming pool, hyperbaric chamber, aesthetic acupuncture, cold plunge, infrared sauna and hammam. Not to forget that LED light therapy masks are available in the rooms.
