In Situ: Charles Zana’s Dream Apartment for Art Basel
On the occasion of Art Basel Paris, Charles Zana unveiled the exhibition “In Situ” at 242 Rue de Rivoli. This display transforms a 19th-century Parisian apartment into a unique space blending architecture, design, and contemporary art. “In Situ” features Charles Zana’s latest furniture and object designs, heralding a new chapter in his exploration of scale and volume. More than thirty pieces, many of them previously unseen, are displayed in an intimate and spacious setting. The centerpiece is the monumental “Sara” sofa, a six-meter-long reinterpretation of the “Julie” sofa. Other notable pieces include patinated lacquer tables created in collaboration with Pierre Bonnefille, “Carlo” bronze mirrors, the “Big Franck” armchair, and a leather and bronze bench. Charles Zana expands his usual palette with new materials such as lacquer, tin, and plaster. For this exhibition, curator Paul Calligaro has selected works dating from the 19th century to the present day. The exhibition is rounded off by a cabinet of curiosities that reflects Charles Zana’s artistic universe.
At the opening, we met Charles Zana, Leia Sfez, Leo Walk, Amel Berkani, Yorgo Tloupas, Alexandre de Betak, and others.
