Alexandre de Betak Explores Light in his First London Studio
Serena Rees, Valérie Sadoun and Charlotte Stockdale hosted, on Friday, October 17th, during Frieze London, the opening of Alexandre de Betak’s first atelier in London, a space dedicated to personal experimentation.
In the first half of his career, the world-renowned artistic director redefined fashion shows and live events; now, he is focusing on his own practice, deepening his exploration of the spatial and experiential dimensions that have always been signatures of his work. This evolving installation, composed entirely of light fixtures, transforms his new studio — still under construction — into a place for creation and reflection. As throughout his career, de Betak approaches light as both medium and architecture, experimenting with scale, discipline, and style. This luminous architectural sculpture marks the beginning of de Betak’s independent artistic journey — like the first brushstroke on a blank canvas, it offers a glimpse into his new creative direction, as well as into his new studio.
During the inauguration, accompanied by music from Paul Simonon, we met Lily Allen, Emmanuelle Alt, Gianluca Longo, Camille Rowe, Mario Testino, and many others.
