Artist Duo Florentine and Alexandre Lamarche-Ovize Takes Over the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature

Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature, Paris

The latest exhibition presented by the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature is turning the temporary showroom space into an immersive setting, halfway between a landscape and a hearth, inviting visitors to “inhabit” the artwork. Known for their practice combining drawing and ceramics, the Lamarche-Ovize duo blurs the boundaries between art and craft. They draw inspiration from the medieval period, especially the Bestiary of Love, to question our relationship with other species and domination. The figure of the witch, linked to nature and lunar forces, is also present as a critical counterpoint.

This theatrical approach marks the beginning of a larger-scale project spanning the museum’s various floors. Conceived as a series of tributes and reinterpretations, this artistic initiative takes over the walls, furniture, and tapestries, using the unique museography of the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature as a domestic space to be expanded.

Among the figures that inhabit this symbolic universe is the witch, an archetype of marginality and persecution. This figure, which evokes both witch hunts and animal trials in the Middle Ages, features in the exhibition’s bestiary as a critical counterpoint to traditional representations of power.

Spread across several floors of the museum, more than half of the 70 works on display are being shown for the first time. At the opening, we met the duo Lamarche-Ovize, alongside the new director of the Musée de la Chasse et de la Nature Alice Gandin, managing director of the Fondation François Sommer Alban de Loisy, Daniel Templon, Jean-Michel Crovesi, Marion Papillon, Annette Messager, Pierre Lungheretti…
