Fondazione Furla and Sara Enrico: the Gardens of Villa Reale Turn into a Stage for Art

Villa Reale, Milano

Milan celebrated the opening of Under the Sun, Beyond the Skin by transforming the gardens of Villa Reale into an open-air set where Sara Enrico’s art, curated by Bruna Roccasalva, met the city’s glamorous energy. For the seventh edition of the Furla Series program, Fondazione Furla and GAM – Galleria d’Arte Moderna di Milano welcomed the public with a project conceived entirely en plein air: horizontal sculptures laid across the terrace, psychedelic color architectures stretched over the lawn, monumental trunks brought back to life, and transparent shells evoking a bodiless gaze.

Amidst 19th-century statues and site-specific installations, guests from the worlds of art, fashion, and design moved through the gardens like a silent catwalk, guided by works that merge natural and artificial, body and surface, play and tension. Among those present, alongside Giovanna Furlanetto, were Vincenzo De Bellis, Domenico Piraina, Gianfranco Maraniello, Linda Fregni Nagler, Edoardo Bonaspetti, and Tommaso Sacchi.

The evening continued with an exclusive private dinner that turned the opening into a kind of convivial ritual: tables set like stage backdrops, conversations flowing between collectors and curators. An atmosphere suspended between society and reflection, where the Biella-born artist unfolded her practice—made of matter and gestures that become landscape—captivating the audience with a dialogue that transformed art into not just a vision but a shared experience.
Under the Sun, Beyond the Skin is not just an exhibition, but an occasion that reaffirms the vocation of the partnership between Fondazione Furla and GAM—active since 2021—to bring contemporary art into the city’s historic spaces with the lightness and strength of an unforgettable event.
