“Il Maestro”: An Italian Summer Bringing Together Two Generations

Palazzo Del Cinema, Venice

The Lido took on a nostalgic flair with the premiere of “Il Maestro”, Andrea Di Stefano’s latest film, presented out of Competition at the 82nd Venice International Film Festival. On the red carpet, Pierfrancesco Favino’s appearance embodied the quintessence of contemporary Italian cinema: elegant, measured, assured. Beside him, the young rising star Tiziano Menichelli, followed by the rest of the cast: Giovanni Ludeno, Dora Romano, Valentina Bellè, Astrid Meloni, Paolo Briguglia, Chiara Bassermann, Roberto Zibetti, and Fabrizio Careddu. Last but not least, Edwige Fenech made a memorable return.

Set in the summer of the late 1980s, “Il Maestro” is about sport and the lessons learned on the tennis court, and pays tribute to mentors and their imperfections, underlining how they can be both fragile and generous. The film embarks us on a journey through the challenges of growing up, the power of teaching, and the value of human connections; an Italian-style comedy for anyone who still believes the world can become a fairer place, one step at a time.
