The Desert Becomes A Fertile Ground with “Steps to Nowhere” by 3.Paradis
Last winter, he transported us to the icy lands of his native Montreal. This summer, Emeric Tchatchoua conjures up the desert and its torrid imagery to present a dreamlike Spring-Summer collection tainted with a touch of surrealism, fully embodying the identity of his label 3.Paradis. To achieve this, the fashion designer transformed the Maison des Métallos into an arid field where, rather than parading, models wandered erratically as they made their way through the sand coating the catwalk.
Aptly titled ‘Steps to Nowhere’, the collection draws inspiration from the vastness and silence of the desert to explore the perception of time. Metaphorically, but also quite explicitly, temporality is evoked through its most eloquent symbol, the watch, which finds its way into the wardrobe through patterns and real chronographs that adorn jackets and handbags. Signature elements such as multi-belted trousers and the dove motif are also omnipresent, reasserting the label’s codes. To further evoke a dreamy atmosphere, the collection features drawings of The Little Prince, stars and a distinct blue hue, brightening up a collection that initially opened in sandier, more neutral shades.
On the front row of a scorching catwalk, which saw French Montana and Jean-Charles de Castelbajac walking some of the collection looks, we bumped into CKay, Thomas Chungmanirat, Sarah Andelman, Pascal Morand, Andy 4000, and Jean-Philippe N’djoli.
