On the occasion of Milan Design Week 2025, Palazzo Cordusio Gran Meliá becomes the protagonist of an unprecedented collaboration with the artist and designer Mirei Monticelli, who will bring her evocative installation Persephone’s World inside the hotel. Until April 24, the spaces of the entrance and part of the Isola restaurant will be transformed into an immersive experience in which light, matter and myth intertwine.
Inspired by the theme of Fuorisalone 2025, Connected Worlds, the installation recalls the mythological figure of Persephone and the mosaic on the facade of the building, depicting a woman intent on picking a pomegranate. The journey between light and shadow translates into an evocative path: a large luminous arch at the entrance symbolizes the passage between two worlds, while dancing tongues of fire and a suspended radiant globe embody the cyclical movement of the goddess between the earth and the afterlife. A large reflective mirror, created by Costantini Design, amplifies the visual effect by dissolving the boundaries between the real and the otherworldly. A distinctive element of the project is the use of Banaca fibers, a natural material grown in the Philippines and hand-woven by artisans in the province of Bicol, underlining the designer’s commitment to sustainability and support for local communities.
To complete the exhibition, the Nebula lamp, awarded during MDW 2019, will be positioned between the check-in area and the fifth floor of the hotel, creating a luminous fil rouge between the various spaces. To celebrate the meeting between art and hospitality, on April 10 the Isola restaurant will host an exclusive talk with Monticelli, offering a unique opportunity to delve into his creative vision and the role of design in a sustainable future.
